Information for private sellers
If you are selling a car privately, you must ensure the fuel economy information is accurately displayed when a vehicle is listed on any trading website, such as Trade Me, AutoTrader and other similar sites.
The major websites, such as Trade Me, will display the information automatically as part of the vehicle's listing. Simply follow their instructions when your list your vehicle.
If you are selling a vehicle by other means - for example, as a trade-in or by advertising in the newspaper - you do not have to display the fuel economy information.
However, if you choose to, you can get and display a label to provide potential buyers with information about the vehicle's fuel use. There is no cost and you can get a label here.
The label is not intended to be permanent so it should be removed when the vehicle is sold.
